Bold Runs At The Pat Patten Invitational

While the girl's race begged for relief, Kaden Levings made no contest of the boy's race.

The Cheyenne Mountain junior set a hot early pace that no one dared to latch on it. Levings soloed his way around the Viele Lake course and picked up his second big win of the season, running 15:36.

His time ranks No. 4 all-time on the course.

Behind Levings the scene was nearly the same throughout the final two miles - Valor Christian's Ty Garrett chasing, with teammate Drew Costelow a few strides back.

Garrett picked up a runner-up finish, crossing the line in 15:46, while Costelow was six-seconds back in 15:52.

As impressive as the individual race was, the team race played host to the US No. 5, No. 6, and No. 15 squads, making the 2021 edition of the Pat Patten Invitational easily one of the highest-caliber meets of the week across the country.

And just like last week, Cheyenne Mountain came ready to take care of business.

Erik Le Roux led a wave of Cheyenne Mountain runners across the finish line.

Le Roux finished just over 16-minutes, running 16:00.0 to finish fourth, while Knox ExtonEnzo Knapp, and Tyler Nord wrapped up the scoring for Cheyenne Mountain before anyone else besides Valor could get in their first runner.

Exton crossed in 16:00.3, Knapp in 16:01, and Nord in 16:09.

Cheyenne Mountain went 1-4-5-6-7 to stop their tally at an impressive 23 points. Their 1-5 average was 15:56, and their split was just 29-seconds.

Surely the US No. 6 squad will see some movement upwards after last week's downing of the US No. 2 Farmington squad, in addition to Saturday morning's dominating performance in Boulder.

The 1-2 punch of Garrett and Costelow led US No. 5 Valor to a runner-up finish here with 52 points, while Mountain Vista finished third with 92.
